Kaysey says, "Working with food brings me a joy like no other. The blending of flavors, shapes, and colors amazes me." Both of her parents and grandmothers love to cook, and Kaysey's aunt owns a restaurant in Kingston, New York.

Fog Island Café in Nantucket was the location of Kaysey's externship. "It was a fast-paced restaurant that taught me precision and timing. It was a great learning experience."

"I am hoping to soon become an executive chef and then a food and beverage director," she continues, "After I have several years of experience I hope to own a fine dining restaurant."

CIA Presents "Augie" Awards for Outstanding Achievement

On March 29, 2007, the CIA presented the first Auguste Escoffier Leadership Awards to honor industry leaders who have made transforming contributions to foodservice in the United States . Named for the renowned founder of modern gastronomy, the "Augies" are a new measure for achievement in foodservice and hospitality.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Norman Brinker, Chairman Emeritus of Brinker International, received the Hall of Fame Award for a lifetime of visionary contributions. Leading American chef Thomas Keller, chef and owner of French Laundry, Bouchon, and Per Se, received the Chef of the Year Award. Graduates Steve Ells '90, founder and CEO of Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Jonathan Benno '93, Chef de Cuisine of Per Se in New York City, each received Alumni of the Year Awards for their contemporary achievements in culinary innovation and excellence.

Brinker, Keller, Ells, and Benno received their "Augies" at a gala that raised more than $1 million for CIA scholarship endowments.
