Q: What do you like most about teaching Composition and Communication?

Claire Mathey:
I most enjoy the class discussions of literature, when the students are engaged and contributing ideas confidently. I've also enjoyed developing the information literacy component of Composition & Communication, helping students design research papers on a variety of topics.

Q: What key learning would you like your students to take away from your class?

CM:
It is very gratifying when a student develops a love—or at least a liking—for literature or history or writing. Many students today are anxious about their ability to read and analyze complex texts, let alone to write cogent papers on them. My goal is to help them see that it isn't as difficult as they think.
